Foaled October 1, 2009 around 4:00 AM.

He is about a week premature, tips of his ears are still curled back and his tongue is quite red in color compared to his gums, but he is coming along very well, and doesn't show negative signs.

He sleeps very soundly and whinnies in his sleep. I went to put them out the other afternoon and he was just limp when I tried to get him up, and was snoring the whole time.

October 3rd

Getting stronger and the weather was warm enough to put them outside for a little while this morning.

mare and foal outside in the paddock for the first time

Later in the afternoon, we put them out again after the drizzle had eased up a bit.

October 4th - Cooler and windy but a bit brighter, and had them outside for awhile to stretch their legs.

I also took photos of some of the "neighbors" who were quite interested to see something smaller than themselves.

I noticed a little "rabbit" shaped mark in white on his side in this photo. Might have to call him Thumper...

October 5th - Sunshine for a little while!

I got some better shots of them together and the colt exploring a bit.

Hey Mom, l have a question

"Now I remember what you told me...

and I won't wander off again".

October 7th. The weather has been a bit cooler and it gets dark early at night and stays dark in the morning, so we will have to wait until the weekend to get a few more photos...who knows, maybe there will be snow by then...

October 8th. I guess I shouldn't have said what I did about the snow, we woke up this morning to white covered trees and ground and bitterly cold winds.

The foals always lift their feet and take a bit of time to get used to the ground being slippery, and it must be hard for them to figure out...

By the afternoon, the snow was blown off of the trees and the sun was out, although not very warm.

colt bent out of shape

When I first saw this picture, I thought there must be something wrong with his legs...he moves like one of those big articulated tractors that bend in the middle, maybe he will be a good barrel racing horse.

October 10th. Weather a little nicer, wind is not nearly so brisk.

Don't know what set them off, but all the mares and colts began to buck and run and jump. Royal Silk and Satin is off the ground in two or three photos...for a big mare she sure can jump.

October 12th - Thanksgiving! That's something to get excited about!

October 14th - Snow coming down like crazy!

October 28th

The colt is 4 weeks old today, and the weather is back to being nicer, off and on, but the pastures are so sloppy he is just a ball of mud with his longer winter hair, so more photos will have to wait...

November 14th

We have been busy getting ready for winter here, but the weather is still very nice, so will try to have new photos up soon!
